Beyond The Garden Gates

Editorial And Advertising Policy

This page explains how Beyond The Garden Gates decides what to publish, how we work with businesses and how the site is funded. We want you to be able to trust what you read here and to know when a business is involved.

Our editorial standards

Every article on the site, whoever it is written with, has to meet the same standards:

  • It must be genuinely useful to UK households and answer the question in its title.
  • Facts, figures, rules and safety advice must be checked against authoritative sources, which we link to where possible.
  • We do not publish invented statistics, fake reviews, testimonials or made-up personal experiences.
  • Safety advice must be sensible and clear about when to call a qualified professional.
  • Articles are written in plain British English.

The editor, Kaan Rassad, reviews every article before it is published and has the final say on what appears on the site.

Articles written with businesses

Some of our articles are written with or for UK businesses that we work with, such as local trades and service providers. These articles may include a link to the business where it is relevant to the topic, for example an appliance repair company in a guide to looking after your washing machine. We may be paid for this work.

Being involved in an article does not give a business control over our advice. The guidance must still be accurate and useful on its own, and we do not allow misleading claims about a business, its prices or its services.

Affiliate links

Some links on the site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission from the retailer at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships never decide whether a product or product type is recommended.

Advertising

We may display adverts, including adverts served by Google. Advertisers have no influence over our articles, and adverts are shown separately from our own content. For how advertising cookies work, see our privacy and cookie policy.

What we will not publish

  • Content that promotes gambling, weapons, adult services or illegal products
  • Medical, weight-loss or financial claims that are not supported by reliable evidence
  • Copied or plagiarised content, or content written to mislead search engines rather than help readers
  • Links to websites we believe are unsafe, deceptive or low quality

Corrections and updates

If we get something wrong, we will correct it. We also review older articles, update advice that has changed, and combine or remove posts that are out of date. To report an error, please contact us.
